Abstract

The reaction of Co 2(CO) 8 with the heterocyclic thioamide S SCOCH 2CH 2N H provided the synthesis of the chiral cluster [Co 3(CO) 6(μ 3-S)( COCH 2CH 2N H)(μ-η 2-S COCH 2CH 2N ) ( 1), where S OCH 2CH 2N is a three-electron bridging bidentate ligand linked by nitrogen and sulphur to two cobalt atoms and COCH 2CH 2N H is a two-electron terminal carbene ligand linked by carbon to the third cobalt atom, as shown by X-ray structure analysis. The molecule has an almost perfect regular triangular-pyramidal Co 3S skeleton.
