Abstract

Abstract 1:1 and 1:2 mole ratio reactions of trichlorooxovanadium(V) with the sodium salt of semicarbazones derived from different heterocyclic aldehydes result in the formation of five- and six-coordinated oxovanadium(v) complexes, respectively. These have been isolated and characterised by elemental analysis, molecular weight determinations and conductance and magnetic measurements. Based on electronic, infrared and proton magnetic resonance spectral studies, distorted trigonal bipyramidal and octahedral geometries have been suggested for the mono- and bis-Schiff base complexes, respectively.
