Abstract
The syntheses and X-ray crystal structures of Ag(AsPh 3) 3Cl · 0.5CH 3COCH 3 ( 1) and of (AgNO 3) 2(Ph 2AsCH 2CH 2AsPh 2) ( 2) are described. The crystal structure of 1 contains discrete monomeric Ag(AsPh 3) 3Cl units in which Ag is tetrahedrally surrounded by three As atoms and one Cl atom, along with solvating acetone molecules. Compound 2 exists in the crystalline form as polymeric layers, since the diarsine ligand bridges the two independent silver atoms to form a dimer and the dimers are held together in layers through connecting nitrate groups. Carbon atoms of adjacent phenyl rings complete the environment of both the silver atoms and aid in binding the molecules together.
