Abstract
The reaction of [(diphenylphosphino)cyclopentadienyl]thallium [Tl(C 5H 4PPh 2)] with metallic europium or ytterbium powder in THF (tetrahydrofuran) at 60°C in the presence of metallic mercury, followed by crystallization from a mixture of dimethyoxyethane and diethylene glycol dimethyl ether (DIME) (10:1), afforded [( η 5-C 5H 4 PPh 2) 2Eu(DIME))] 1 and [( η 5-C 5H 4PPh 2) 2Yb(DIME)] 2 respectively. Crystal and molecular structures of 1 and 2 have been determined by X-ray crystallography.
