Abstract
A simple and scalable method for the synthesis and stabilisation of MgH2 nanoparticles by self-assembly and confinement has been developed. An azide-terminated poly(styrene; PSTN) with good thermal stability provided a nucleation point for anchoring the polymer at the magnesium surface (see scheme). The hybrid PSTN/MgH2 nanotubes maintain relatively fast kinetics and retaining a third of the theoretical hydrogen storage capacity of magnesium.
