Abstract

A series of metalmetal bonded complexes [M(CO) 3(η-C 5R 5 M′(CO) 2(η-C 7H 7)] ( 1: M  M′  Mo, R  H; 2: M  M′  Mo, R  Me; 3 M  M′  W, R  H; 4: M  W, M′  Mo, R  H) have been synthesized from the dicarbonylacetonitrile cations [M′(CO) 2(NCMe)(η-C 7H 7)][BF 4] (M′  Mo or W) and the appropriate anion Li[M(CO) 3(η-C 5H 5)] (M  Mo or W, R  H or Me). Infrared, electronic absorption, and NMR spectra of complexes 1 to 4 are discussed; variable temperature 13C NMR studies on 2 advocate an intermetallic carbonyl scrambling process.
