Abstract

The unsaturated compound [Mo 2Cp 2(μ-CH 2PPh 2)(μ-PPh 2)(CO) 2] (Cp = η-C 5H 5) has been prepared by heating [Mo 2Cp 2(CO) 4-(μ-Ph 2PCH 2PPh 2)] in tetrahydrofuran at 60° C. This compound reacts with elemental E (E = S, Se) to yield [Mo 2Cp 2(μ-CH 2PPh 2)(μ-PPh 2)(μ-E)(CO) 2], and with iodine to give the cation [Mo 2Cp 2(μ-I)(μ-CH 2PPh 2)(μ-PPh 2)(CO) 2] + the crystal structure of which as the [TlI 4] − salt has been determined by an X-ray diffraction study.
