Abstract

Summary New 1-adamantyl (Ad) derivatives of silicon, germanium, tin and titanium have been synthesised by reaction of organometal alkalis with 1-haloadamantane and also by a Wurtz-Fittig reaction. Me 3 SnAd and Ph 3 SnAd are reactive towards electrophilic attack but the tetraadamantyl derivatives of the above elements are remarkably inert. The results indicate that the Wurtz reaction is at least in part an electron-transfer process.
