Abstract

Hyperbranched polyurethane-methacrylates were synthesized and used as oligomers for ink-jet printing of LCD color filters. Pigment-based inks containing these hyperbranched polymers (HBPs) were ink-jet printed and fixed by a UV curing reaction to make color patterns on glass substrates. The HBPs exhibited excellent compatibility with pigments and other UV-curable compositions in inks. Surfactants were added and hyperbranched polymers were changed to adjust the rheology of the inks; this adjustment improved the ink for ink-jet printing, with regard to performance such as straight jetting trajectory, deposition accuracy, and uniform drop size. The UV-cured patterns that incorporated HBPs as ink components exhibited good chemical resistance and high nanoindentation hardness.
