Abstract

The compounds [Ru 2 Cl 2 (bpy) 2 bpnp](PF 6 ) 2 (1) and [Ru 2 (μ-O 2 CCH 3 ) 3 bpnp]PF 6 (2) have been prepared and characterized. Cyclic voltammetry of 1 in acetonitrile shows two successive one-electron oxidations at 0.64 and 1.34 V (vs SSCE) and two one-electron reductions at −0.76 and 1.35 V. One-electron oxidation of 1 yields the corresponding stable mixed-valence Ru(II)-Ru(III) complex, which has significant metal-metal interactions, as indicated by the electrochemical and spectroscopic data.
