Abstract

Two asymmetric 9, 10-dithienylanthracene compounds (DTAs), [9-thienyl-10-(5-vinylbenzoxazolyl-2-thienyl)]anthracene (DTA-BO) and [9-thienyl-10-(5-vinylbenzothiazolyl)-2-thienyl]anthracene (DTA-BT), have been designed, synthesized and characterized. The DTAs exhibit aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) behaviors and high fluorescence quantum yields in the states of aggregation, as well as reversible mechanofluorochromic (MFC) behaviors upon grinding-CH2Cl2 fuming. Intriguingly, DTA-BO and DTA-BT show great application potentials in cell imaging with good cell membrane penetration and strong luminescent emission performances. Our work is helpful for the design and development functional AIEE dyes based on DTA-skeleton.
