Abstract

New remarkably soluble benzo[ghi]perylene derivatives Bp1-5 showing good optical absorption and fluorescence emission in the visible region have been synthesized in 21%–30% good over all yields. The core extension of Bp1-5 was performed using oxidative photocyclization reaction of appropriate functional olefins. The photophysical and electrochemical properties of these new π-conjugated compounds have been investigated experimentally using UV–visible absorption, photoluminescence spectroscopies and cyclic voltammetry technique in order to evaluate the potential of these molecules as electron-transport materials.
