Abstract

The trimeric phosphinogallane [Me2Ga-PPh2]3 was prepared by the room temperature reaction of trimethylgallium with diphenylphosphine in toluene. The title compound, characterized by 1H NMR, 31P NMR, elemental analyses, and single-crystal x-ray diffraction, crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/n (No. 14) with one trimeric phosphinogallane and two toluene solvent molecules per asymmetric unit. The unit cell parameters were a = 14.455(3) A; b = 22.541 (4) A; c = 16.847 (4) A, β = 105.53 (2)°, D calcd = 1.30 g cm−3, and V = 5289 (2) A3, for Z = 4. Refinement converged at R = 0.039, R w = 0.054. The crystal structure reveals that the title compound resides about a Ga3P3 six-membered ring in a chair conformation with a mean Ga-P bond distance of 2.433 (1) A.
