Abstract

SrY2O4 activated with Eu3+, Tb3+, Sm3+, Ce3+, Bi3+ were prepared by combustion synthesis. Prepared phosphors were characterized by photoluminescence technique. Eu3+ doped SrY2O4 phosphor shows red emission due to 5D0 to 7Fj transition. Multiple emission lines indicate the existence of more than one site and different europium sites showed different excitation bands. Tb3+ doped SrY2O4 phosphor shows both blue and green emissions due to the transitions from 5D3 to 7Fj and 5D4 to 7Fj state. The excitation curve of Sm3+ doped SrY2O4 phosphor shows good overlap in n-UV region and also excitable at 409 nm, therefore this phosphor is an attractive candidate as a potential UV-LED converted phosphor in white-lighting technology. Ce3+ doped SrY2O4 phosphor shows broad emission band attributed to the transition from the 5d level to the ground state (2F5/2, 2F7/2) of the Ce3+ ion. Transition metal ion Bi3+ doped SrY2O4 phosphor exhibited broad PL emission in blue region. Prepared phosphors are useful to be used in display devices and related applications.
