Abstract
The Eu3+-activated La5BSi2O13 was successfully synthesized via a solid state reaction. The phase purity, crystal structure, photoluminescence properties, thermal stability and chromaticity coordinate have been firstly investigated. A typical Eu3+ emission and excitation spectra were observed. The excitation spectrum was comprised of sharp peaks at 300 nm – 500 nm which can be ascribed to the forbidden 4f-4f transitions of Eu3+. The emission spectrum was dominated by a large peak located at 615 nm which corresponds to the 5D0 → 7F2 transitions of Eu3+. The results indicate that La5BSi2O13:Eu3+ is a potential candidate as red component for white light-emitting diode applications.
