Abstract

We prepared BaLaGa3O7: Bi3+,Sm3+ phosphors via solid state reactions and investigated their crystallinity, lattice occupancy, and photoluminescence performance. The phase and crystal structure, morphology and size, as well as element composition of phosphor were investigated via a series of measurements. The photoluminescence and Bi3+ → Sm3+ energy transfers were investigated in detail. It is proved that Bi3+ → Sm3+ energy transfer occurs in Bi3+/Sm3+ codoped BaLaGa3O7 phosphors and it is induced by dipole–dipole interaction. By calculating the decay lifetime, the efficiency of Bi3+ → Sm3+ energy transfer is evaluated. The CIE coordinates of the prepared show obvious dependence on Sm3+ concentration and temperature.
