Abstract

This paper is described on the outline of synsesis and its applicatrioin of layered hydrous titanium dioxide (H2Ti2O5⋅nH2O and H2Ti4O9⋅nH2O) fibers of two kinds. The layered hydrous titanium dioxide fibers were newly synthesized by extracting the interlayered potassium ions from K2Ti2O5 and K2Ti4O9 fibers in a hydrochloric solution. The ion-exchangeable properties of the H2Ti2O5⋅nH2O and H2Ti4O9⋅nH2O fibers are characterized to be excellent cation exchanger from the measurement of distribution coefficient for various metal ion series. The applications of ion exchanger are mainly described on separation and mineral immobilization of dangerous nuclides from viewpoint of treatment of high-level radioactive liquid waste and on adsorption of uranium from sea water.
