Abstract
Synthesis and ion studies of a new Ag+ ion conducting glass-polymer composites (GPCs): (1 − x) [70PEO: 30[0.8(0.75AgI:0.25AgCl):0.2(Ag2O:V2O5)] + x SiO2, where 0 ≤ x ≤ 20 wt (%), are reported. Silver-venedate glass and GPCs were casted using melt-quenching and hot-press techniques respectively. The composition: 96[70PEO: 30[0.8(0.75AgI:0.25AgCl):0.2(Ag2O:V2O5)] + 4 SiO2 with conductivity (σ) ∼ 7.5 × 10−5 S·cm−1 was identified as highest conducting composition. Two orders of conductivity enhancement in the newly synthesized GPC have been achieved by the dispersion of nano-filler SiO2 from that of the pure glass polymer electrolytes. The glass-polymer composite complexations have been confirmed by the XRD and DSC analysis. The ion conduction phenomena have been explained with the help of ionic conductivity (σ), ionic mobility (μ), mobile ion concentration (n) and ion transference number (tion) measurements.
