Abstract

Abstract The cationic alkynylplatinum(II) terpyridine complexes show high affinity (Ka > 107 M−1) and reasonable selectivity for telomeric and c-myc G-quadruplexes over duplex DNA. In the absence of alkali cations, these Pt(II) complexes can promote the formation and stabilization of G-quadruplexes. The cytotoxicity of complexes 2 and 3 against the A549 cancer cell line is ca. 25-fold and 35-fold higher than that of cisplatin, respectively.
