Abstract

The Ca(10−x) Bix(PO4)6(OH)2 nanopowders hydroxyapatite based ceramics were prepared by sol–gel method. The dielectrical and ferroelectric properties of Bi doped hydroxyapatite nanoceramics were investigated by polarization –voltage and capacitance–frequency measurements. FTIR spectra and EDS results were used to determine the elemental composition of the ceramics. The Ca(10−x)Bix(PO4)6(OH)2 ceramics are nanomaterials as their particle is in the range of nanometer. The dielectric constant of the ceramics are increased up to x = 0.3 and then decreases with Bi dopant. The hydroxyapatite exhibited a ferroelectric behavior and its ferroelectric properties are decreased with Bi dopant. Electrical and ferroelectric properties of the hydroxyapatite ceramic indicate that Bi dopant controls the dielectrical and ferroelectric behavior of hydroxyapatite.
