Abstract

Reaction of dipyridine zincthiocyanate, Zn(py) 2(NCS) 2, with tris-(2-pyridyl)phosphane, P(py) 3, in methanol solution yielded the zinc complex [Zn(P(py) 3) 2][Zn(NCS) 4]. A structure determination of the title compound showed that it is composed of a [Zn(P(py) 3) 2] 2+ complex cation, one [Zn(NCS) 4] 2− anion and a solvent molecule. The complex cation has octahedral geometry with six pyridine N donor atoms and the anion has tetrahedral geometry with four thiocyanate N donor atoms.
