Abstract
The compound [ ( μ-1,1,3-N 3) 2{Cu 2 (Me 2Eten) 2 (N 3) 2}] n (1) where Me 2Eten is N, N-dimethyl- N′-ethylethylenediamine has been synthesized and characterized crystallographically. Each copper atom is placed in a pseudooctahedral environment with a terminal azido and one diamine ligand. The remaining coordination sites are occupied by N atoms of the unusual μ-1,1,3 bridging azido ligands giving a ferro–antiferromagnetic alternating chain. Magnetic susceptibility data, measured from 2 to 300 K, show bulk ferromagnetic coupling. These data were fitted by using the equation for S=1/2 ferromagnetic/antiferromagnetic systems, giving the parameters J 1=−7.0 cm −1, J 2=24.8 cm −1, g=2.08.
