Abstract

• A coordination polymer of {[Cd 2 (N 2 H 4 ) 6 ][Cd(N 2 H 4 ) 3 ](NO 3 ) 6 } n was prepared. • The compound showed a wide range of transparency in the UV-Vis absorption spectrum. • The compound were crystalized in trigonal crystal system with space group of P31c. Micro dimensional hexagonal prisms of {[Cd 2 (N 2 H 4 ) 6 ][Cd(N 2 H 4 ) 3 ](NO 3 ) 6 } n were crystallized in trigonal crystal system with space group of P31c. The crystal structure shows the compound to be comprised of linear chains of cadmium atoms octahedrally coordinated by six bridging N 2 H 4 ligands. The compound was characterized by a number of techniques including X-ray Powder Diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), FT-IR, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The UV-Vis absorption spectrum shows a wide transparency range suggesting that the compound may be a prospective candidate for nonlinear optical applications.
