Synthesis and Crystal Structure of (4-Hydroxy-3-methylphenyl)(4-methylphenyl)methanone

Abstract

The title compound, C15H14O2, was synthesized and the structure was studied by X-ray crystallography. The compound crystallizes in monoclinic crystal class in the space group P21/n with cell parameters a = 5.9910(5)A, b = 13.493(2)A, c = 14.894(2)A, β = 95.776(8)° and Z = 4. The structure exhibits intermolecular hydrogen bonds of the type O-H…O.
