Abstract

Attempts to prepare polynuclear, heterometallic Cu II/Th IV complexes with 2- pyridone (= L) bridges, analogous to those formed by Cu II/Dy III and Cu II/Gd III gave instead [ThL 6(NO 3) 2](NO 3) 2, which has been characterized by X-ray diffraction. The Th atom is 10-coordinate with two bidentate nitrates and the six pyridone oxygen atoms forming a distorted bicapped square antiprism.
