Abstract
Two polynuclear zinc(II) complexes [(NCS)2Zn(L)Zn(µ-1,2-OCOCH3)Zn(L)Zn(NCS)(DMF)](1) and [−(µ-1,3-N3)Zn(N3)(L)Zn(µ-1,1-N3)Zn(L)Zn(N3)(µ-1,3-N3)–]n(2) have been synthesized using an N2O2O2′ donor compartmental Schiff base ligand, {H2L = 2,2′-[(2,2-Dimethyl-1,3-propanediyl)bis(nitrilomethylidyne)]bis[6-ethoxyphenol]}. Both complexes have been characterized by different spectroscopic techniques. Single crystal X-ray diffraction technique has been used to confirm the structures of both complexes. Complex 1 is tetra-nuclear, whereas complex 2 is a coordination polymer. Both complexes exhibit high selectivity towards trinitrophenol (TNP) sensing. Both complexes can detect various nitroaromatics up to different concentration limits. DFT study has been used to explain the results. NMR titration has been done to give experimental support to the sensing mechanism.
