Abstract
Abstract Complexes of the type Ln(SO3Cl)3X2 (Ln [dbnd] Nd, Sm or Gd; X [dbnd] pyridine, pyridine N-oxide, acridine, triphenyl-phosphine, triphenylphosphine oxide) and Ln(SO3Cl)3X (X[dbnd]2,2′-bipyridyl) have been synthesized and characterized. The complexes do not dissociate in formamide and the infrared spectra indicate that the SO3Cl− group is bidentate. The bands obtained in reflectance spectra and the values of magnetic moments are consistent with octacoordination of the metal ions.
