Abstract

An octadentate azodye ligand containing phenolic/ketonic oxygen and azo nitrogen donor atoms when complexed with divalent metal ions forms tetranuclear complexes of composition [M4LCl4(H2O)12] and [ $$ M_{4}^{/} $$ LCl4(H2O)4] where, M = CoII,CuII, NiII, MnII and M/ = Zn II,, CdII and LH4 = 4,4/-bis(2,4/-dihydroxy-5/-acylphenylazo)diphenylsulphone (BDHAPADPS). The metal complexes were characterised by analytical, magnetic moment, conductance, I.R., electronic spectra, thermal, ESI–MS, ESR, XRD, SEM and EDX. DFT calculations of the ligand and metal complexes have been made by GAUSSIAN 03 rev. A.01 programme package. The antibacterial study of the ligand and the complexes has been made using Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.
