Abstract

A novel series of Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes with Schiff base ligand 2-(pyridine-2′-carbaldehydeimino) pyrazine have been synthesized and characterized by micro elemental analysis, molar conductivity, magnetic susceptibility, FTIR, NMR and electronic absorption spectra. General molecular formula of the complexes has been found to be [M(L)(B)2] where M= Pd(II) and Pt(II) cations L=Schiff base and B= bases such as water, ammonia, pyridine and ɑ-picoline. All the bases contain nitrogen and oxygen as their donor sites. The molar conductance values of metal complexes suggest their electrolytic nature. On the basis of elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic moment measurements and spectral data complexes were proposed to be square planar.
