Abstract

Some new mixed-ligand oxovanadium(IV) complexes with general formulae: [VO(LH)(L′)]SO4 and [VO(L)(L′)]2SO4, [L = morpholinecarbodithioate (Morphcdt) or 4-alkylpiperazinecarbodithioate (4-RPipzcdt) (alkyl = R = M, Et); L′ = phenanthroline (phen) or bipyridyl (bipy)] were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetry analysis, FTIR, ESMS, NMR, powder XRD and solution electronic absorption spectral, magnetic susceptibility measurements and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies. These complexes in their mass spectra shows peaks above their molecular masses indicating their dimeric nature. Temperature dependent (300 – 77 K) magnetic behaviour (μeff decreases with decrease of temperature) for mixed-ligand oxovanadium (IV) complexes suggest their antiferromagnetic nature. Some complexes screened for their antimicrobial activities shows their moderate antimicrobial activity.
