Abstract

We report the chemical synthesis and characterization of a new conducting polymer, polynitrosoaniline. The presence of nitroso moieties in the polymeric backbone results in a change in the conductivity behaviour of the polymer. The scanning electron micrographs of the polynitrosoaniline reveal an irregular globular pattern. The thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry studies of the polymer show degradation at 429°C. X-ray diffraction studies of the polymer indicate lesser crystallinity as compared with emeraldine base.
