Abstract

The sorption potential of paramagnetic poly styrene-co-acrylamide hydrogel was investigated for the removal of pesticide (Chlorpyrifos) from aqueous solution. The maximum uptake of pesticide was obtained at pH 4 in 60 minute at room temperature (25 0 C). In batch mode of adsorption, the influence of pH, concentration, adsorbent dose and in column mode, bed height, flow rate and initial concentration were studied on adsorptive removal of pesticide. The equilibrium experimental results were analyzed in terms of Langmuir and Freundlich models. Equilibrium data fitted very well to the Langmuir model. In the column method, the BDST model was used to obtain an empirical relationship for the design of adsorption column. The adsorbent “paramagnetic poly styrene-co-acrylamide hydrogel” was characterized by TEM, XRD and FTIR analysis respectively.
