Abstract

The reactions of SnCl4, Me2SnCl2 and Ph2SnCl2 with the Schiff base (L) 2-methoxy-l-[(4-chloro-phenylimino)methyl]naphthalene result in the formation of tin(IV) anionic complexes. Ph2SnCl2 reacts with the Schiff base in dichloromethane to form the complex salt [LH+][Ph2SnCl3 −] (LH+ = protonated L). X-ray structural analysis has been carried out on a single crystal of [LH+][Ph2SnCl3 −]. The reactions of SnCl4 and Me2SnCl2 with the Schiff base form the complexes [LH+]2[SnCl6 2-] and [LH+]2[Me4Sn2Cl6 2-], respectively. All complex salts were characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopic methods (IR and 1H NMR).
