Abstract

AbstractTwo‐photon absorbing polymers with alternating fluorenyl units as a π‐conjugated bridge and bisbenzothiazole or thiazolothiazole as electron‐acceptors were synthesized and characterized by IR, elemental analysis, absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Improvement on the solubility was observed in comparison with their phenyl based analogies. The linear absorption and emission spectra were recorded and high fluorescence quantum yields were found. Relatively large two‐photon absorption cross‐section per repeat unit (420 GM) were measured under fs‐pulsed laser excitation. Copyright © 2005 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
