Abstract

La3+-doped CdO nanoparticles have been prepared by solution combustion method and air-annealed at 385 ℃. XRD results described these samples are single phased and nearly amorphous with crystallite size decreased with increase in La content. Surface morphology is investigated from FESEM and TEM images. XRD, XPS, FTIR and UV results approve the formation of La − O adduct in CdO crystals. La3+ additive facilitated the trapping of photogenerated electron-hole pair, and suppressed photocatalytic performance of CdO towards methyl orange, methylene blue and picric acid. Results also indicate that La-doped CdO can be attractive for optoelectronic devices below 2 mol % La3+ doping.
