Abstract

Different formulations of electrospun nanofiber were produced from gelatin, chitosan, polyvinyl alcohol, gelatin/polyvinyl alcohol, and gelatin/polyvinyl alcohol/chitosan. SEM and FTIR were used to determine the morphology and structure of the obtained nanofiber. In the following steps, ciprofloxacin and ibuprofen were loaded into the obtained nanofiber, which was then characterized with FTIR, SEM, XRD, and DSC. The SEM morphological characterization revealed that the systems were homogeneous. FTIR analysis of the component’s structure revealed interactions among some functional groups. In ciprofloxacin-containing nanofibers demonstrated significant antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus in vitro, which is dependent on the antibacterial activity of both ciprofloxacin and chitosan.
