Abstract

MMNCs (Metal Matrix Nano Composites) exhibit more outstanding properties over MMCs and are assumed to overcome the shortcoming of MMCs such as low fracture toughness, ductility and machinability. The aim of present study is to investigate the mechanical, tribological and micro structural behaviour of Al 7075 metal matrix composites reinforced with nano aluminium Oxide (Al2O3 < 100nm) in different weight percentage 0, 3, 5 and 7% using double stir casting process. Mechanical properties of composites is increasing with increase in wt% of nano particles, however with increasing wt% (at 7%) of nano particles the Mechanical properties of composite is decrease. These results would be attributed that adding more nano particles in the matrix would lead to more agglomeration of particles and higher porosity. In sliding wear, wear rate of composite is decreased with increase in wt% of nano particles (Al2O3) and increased with increase in applied load. SEM and optical microscope process was successfully applied on the samples to study the microscopy of composites at different composition (0, 3, 5, & 7 wt% of nano Al2O3).
