Abstract
Abstract In this paper, we report the synthesis and study of lanthanide perchlorate complexes with a Schiff base derived from p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde and 4-aminoantipyrine, i.e. 4[(N-4-dimethylaminobenzalidene)amino]antipyrine (DABAAP). The complexes are of the type [Ln(DABAAP)4-]-(ClO4)3 (Ln = La, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho or Yb) and have been characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, conductance measurements, magnetic moments, thermal analyses, infrared and electronic spectra. Their nephel-auxetic ratio (β), covalency factor (b2) and Sinha's parameter (δ%) have been determinec for the Pr(III), Nd(III), Sm(III) and Ho(III) complexes, which indicate some covalent character in these complexes.
