Abstract

The effects of different templates on HZSM-5 catalyst morphology and activity in the conversion of methanol to propylene (MTP) were investigated. High silica HZSM-5 catalysts (Si/Al = 200) were synthesized successfully using Ludox as silica source and different structure directing agents (SDAs). XRD, SEM, FT-IR, NH3-TPD, and N2 adsorption–desorption analytical techniques characterized the catalysts. Morpholine shaped nano plate–like morphology. TPAOH as template resulted in the high BET surface area (369.4 m2/g) and crystallinity. The HZSM-5 catalysts showed significant catalytic activity. The catalyst with TPABr as template represented the highest propylene selectivity (45%), methanol conversion (99.8%), and long lifetime (72 h).
