Abstract

Hydrotalcite type structure with a formula of Zn0.55La0.45 (OH)2 (CH3COO)0.45·0.96 H2O has been synthesized by the hydrolysis of the acetate salts of the constituent metal ions. Prominent reflections in the PXRD pattern were indexed in hexagonal symmetry with a=3.19Å and c=14.9Å. The finger print bands due to acetate groups in the FTIR spectrum confirmed their presence in the interlayer. A mixture of ZnO and La2O3 resulted from the calcination of the hydroxide at 350°C and the parent lattice could be regenerated from it. Ion-exchange reactions for the acetate with CO32− and Br−-ions were successful.
