Abstract

A series of non linear schiffs base based liquid crystalline compounds differing in their alkyl chain in the terminal position of 1,4-disubstituted triazole core unit were synthesized. All the compounds and their intermediates are in accordance with FTIR, 1HNMR and 13CNMR spectroscopy. The thermal property and mesogenic behavior are characterized by HOPM and DSC studies which show that all the compounds exhibit liquid crystalline properties with nematic texture. The increase in terminal chain length aids the lamellar arrangement favoring smectic phase.
