Abstract

Abstract Three new solid complexes of the type EuL(NO3)3 have been prepared (L : L 1=bis (o-vanillin)benzidirne; L2 = bis(o-vanillin)-o-phenylene-diamine; L3 = bis (o-vanillin)-p-phenylenediamine) in non-aqueous solution. The complexes were characterized by molar conductance, elemental analyses, x-ray powder diffraction, x-ray photoelectron spectra, infra-red spectra and emission spectra. The emission from the central europium ion Eu3 in absolute alcohol solution was observed by exciting the Schiff base ligand at 77K only, which indicated that the energy transfer from the ligand to the central ion Eu3 was not very effective for all the complexes.
