Abstract

Two kinds of epoxy-based azo polymers containing thiazoleazobenzene chromophores have been designed. An epoxy-based precursor polymer was prepared by polymerization of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A and aniline. Two 2-aminothiazole derivatives, such as 2-amino-4-chloro-5-formylthiazole and 2-amino-4-chloro- 5-dicyanovinylthiazole,were synthesized and their diazonium salts were prepared. The precursor polymer was postfunctionalized through azo-coupling reactions to form two azo polymers BP-1A-T-F and BP-1A-T-2CN.The azo polymers were characterized by the spectroscopic methods and thermal analysis.Polymers containing heteroaromatic chromophores exhibit improved temporal stability and show good solubility and processibility. The λmaxs of BP-1A-T-F and BP-1A-T-2CN obtained by UV-Vis spectroscopy are 579 nm and 650 nm;Tgs of the polymers are 152℃ and 149℃ ,respectively.
