Abstract

Cp 2Ti(AsF 6) 2 ( 1) (Cp = η 5-C 5H 5) reacts with an excess of CH 3CN yielding quantitatively the new cationic titanocene complex [Cp 2Ti(CH 3CN) 3] 2+[AsF 6 −] 2 ( 2). 2 was characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR and 19F NMR spectroscopy. Surprisingly, no reaction of 1 with CF 3CN could be observed. The 19F NMR spectra of 1 at various temperatures are reported and discussed, too. The reaction behaviour of Cp 2TiCl 2 ( 3) towards ClF was investigated, and CpTiCl 3 ( 4) and traces of CpTiCl 2F ( 5) were shown to be the products of this reaction. Surprisingly, no evidence for the formation Of CP 2TiClF could be found. These results are discussed and can be understood easily on the basis of simple thermodynamic estimations.
