Abstract

Abstract Synthesis and characterization of tetra-coordinated B(ONS)(OPri), B(ONS)(OBut), B(ONS)(SNOH), B(NS)2(OPri), B(NS)(OPri)2, B(OBut)(NS)2, B(OBut)(NS) and B(NS)3 (where ONS and NS represent the donor sets of the Schiff bases HONSH and NSH, respectively) type of derivatives are reported in the present communication. These new derivatives have been synthesized by the reactions of tris-(isopropoxy)borane with some thio-Schiff bases such as salicylaldehyde-2-thioethylimine (HONSH) or acetophenone-2-thioethylimine (NSH) in different stoichiometry. An attempt has been made to prove the structures of the resulting complexes on the basis of elemental analyses, conductance measurements, molecular weight determinations and infrared, electronic, proton magnetic resonance and 11B nuclear magnetic resonance spectral studies. The mass fragmentation pattern for one of the representative complex has also been discussed.
