Abstract

A novel p -sulphonatocalix [4] arene functionalized silica gel (PSCS) as adsorbent for dopamine hydrochloride and some antibiotic drugs was designed and synthesized. • The new p -sulphonatocalix [4] arene functionalized silica gel (PSCS) has been synthesized as adsorbent for dopamine hydrochloride and some antibiotic drugs. • The modifying of silica gel could be a reasonable approach to improve the quality of silica gel as a superb adsorbent. • PSCS was reusable and was easy to recover. A novel p -sulphonatocalix [4] arene functionalized silica gel (PSCS) as an adsorbent for dopamine hydrochloride and some antibiotic drugs were designed and synthesized. The PSCS can selectively adsorb dopamine hydrochloride and some antibiotic drugs via electrostatic interactions from aquatic media. The amount of the drugs in an aqueous solution was measured and determined using UV spectroscopy. The structure and properties of the PSCS were characterized by Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) spectroscopy, elemental analysis (CHN), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), and surface area analysis (BET).
