Abstract

Abstract A tetracene dimer, 5,5′-bitetracene (55BT), has successfully been synthesized for the first time and its structure was confirmed by X-ray single crystal analysis. The electrochemical and optical properties of 55BT were investigated and compared to those of tetracene. Although the photoluminescence quantum yield of 55BT was slightly higher than that of tetracene, the results of the transient absorption spectroscopy suggested triplet formation by singlet fission in solution.
