Abstract

Monoamine oxidases (MAOs) catalyze the oxidative deamination of neurotransmitters and biogenic amines. A new class of activity-based fluorescent probes based on the alkylation of 2-(2′-hydroxyphenyl)-4(3 H)-quinazolinone (HPQ) with primary, secondary, or tertiary amines is presented for real-time imaging of MAO activity in living cells.
