Abstract

Two new coordination polymers (CPs), namely [Mn2(L)(bpy)(H2O)2·2H2O]n (1) and [Co2(H2L)2(μ2-H2O)(H2O)6·1.5H2O]n (2) [H4L = 2, 5-bis(3,5-dicarboxylphenyl)-1, 3,4-oxadiazole and bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine], have been synthesized and characterized. CPs 1 and 2 exhibit 3D supramolecular framework was built by the hydrogen bond interactions. The optical band gap reveals that the complexes are semiconducting in nature. The optical band of CPs 1 and 2 are 3.6 and 3.1 eV. The photocatalytic degradation properties of the two CPs are investigated against pollutant dye methyl violet (MV). The degradation efficiency of CPs 1 and 2 against MV are 93.1% and 86.1%, respectively. Significantly, 1 is a good photocatalyst for the degradation of methyl violet (MV). Moreover, the possible photodegradation mechanism was proposed and explored. The active species involved in the degradation of MV has been assessed using trapping experiments.
