Abstract

Hexamesoporous silica (HMS)is one kind of mesoporous materials. It can be synthesized by neutral templating route at room temperature using neutral surfactant. The preparation method is much simpler than the cation surfactantroute. The XRD pattern of HMS has only one peak, which is different from that of MCM-41.Although the XRD pattern of HMS is less resolved than that of MCM-41,its pore wall is thicker than the conventional MCM-41,therefore,ithas a higher thermal and hydrothermal stability. The neutral surfactant could be recovered completely by extraction, resulting the decrease of the cost. By carefully regulating the preparation parameters such as the compositions of the precursors, the type of surfactant, the type and concentration of cosolvent, the synthesis temperature and time, one is able to control the morphology and the structure of HMS material. This report reviews the synthesis method, morphology and characteristics of HMS. The mechanism of synthesis was also reviewed.
